Day Before the PGA Championship, Jordan Spieth Suffers ‘Severe Pain’ and Makes a Disappointing Announcement

Jordan Spieth has had a stable run this season. He last played at Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina. Although he did miss the cut, the Quail Hollow. He tied for fourth at the Masters and at the designated PGA event, RBC Heritage he lost in playoffs to Matt Fitzpatrick. He was next to be seen at the upcoming AT&T Byron Nelson at McKinney’s TPC Craig Ranch from May 11-14, 2023. 

But Spieth’s recent unexpected announcement about the tournament has left the golf world disappointed. Well, the player isn’t too happy about the announcement either.

The 29-year-old played his first ever Byron Nelson when he was just 16 years old. Spieth finished as runner-up at the 2022  AT&T Byron Nelson. The golfer is also sponsored by AT&T. 

Jordan Spieth is a Texas native, and he has won two out of three PGA titles in his hometown. He was just as excited about the coming week’s tournament in Dallas and to play in front of his friends and family. 

But alas! His recent statement disclosed a heartbreaking news that majorly affects his tournament.

The world’s 10th-best player shared about his injury on Twitter on Monday and informed fans he has withdrawn from the coming week’s tournament.  He wrote, “The AT&T Byron Nelson means the absolute world to me and I’m disappointed to miss it this week. Playing in front of family and friends in Dallas is one of the highlights of my year, and the tournament staff and volunteers are second to none. I look forward to being back next year and many years after.”

He also shared that his doctor will assess his injury week to week, and he focuses on healing as soon as possible. 

Texas native did not hint anything at his upcoming PGA Championship participation amidst this sad news. We hope he definitely heals by the second major tournament of the season. 

But what lies in store ahead of the AT&T Byron Nelson?

AT&T Byron Nelson is returning to Dallas for the third time. In 2020, TPC Craig Ranch signed a 5-year deal with PGA to host the aforesaid tournament. 

The purse of the event is worth $9.6 million, which is the highest for a non-elevated event as of now.
